Independent Living Fund to be phased out by 2015

The Government has announced that the Independent Living Fund (ILF) which supports more than 21,000 severely disabled people is to be phased out by 2015. The £359m fund helps severely disabled people to stay in their own homes through the funding of personal assistants, who offer support for day to day living. Their help may include anything from assistance with washing and dressing to getting to and from work. For many severely disabled people, an assistant is required 24 hours a day in order for them to live independently.
