Speak up and we will speak out: how we can support you

The Campaigns Team speaks out in Parliament

We are now coming to the end of our Advocacy Fortnight. Over the past two weeks we have highlighted numerous cases where we intervened and helped over turn decisions which have prevented people access the care and support they require. If you have missed any of the stories you can read them on our blog.

These are just a few examples of the way in which we can help. We deal with cases on a whole range of topics – from care packages, housing adaptations, employment issues, transport concerns to organising specialist equipment and benefits advice.  I hope this has given you an insight into the work which we do and how we may be able to help you if you are experiencing difficulties because of your neuromuscular condition.

Get in touch and we can:

  • Ring and write on your behalf to the authority that is failing to provide you with high quality care
  • Involve and brief your MP so that they too can intervene on your behalf
  • Organise and co-ordinate input from specialist health professionals in support of your application for adequate care and support
  • Seek legal advice on your particular case
  • Refer your case to Hogan Lovells– a leading global law firm who have offered the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign legal support for patients with a neuromuscular condition
  • Raise your problems in Parliament
  • Engage local and national press and generate coverage

In order to ensure that we offer you high quality support, the Care and Campaigns team have been trained in Community Care Law, Human Rights and regularly attend seminars on changes to the benefit system to ensure that we are always informed and able to offer individually tailored support and advice. We are also delighted to work closely with Hogan Lovells and their team of 10 legal experts who have volunteered to take up cases where people with neuromuscular conditions have been the victims of unfair decisions.

Don’t struggle in silence or put up with poor quality care – you are entitled to appropriate care and support which allows you to live a full and independent life. Get in touch today and tell us about the issues you face and together we can call for better services.

Our team is available on 020 7803 2853 or by email at Campaigns@muscular-dystrophy.org : Speak up and we will speak out.
