Trailblazers join debate on access in London

Trailblazers attended the Disability Capital 2011 event held at the Excel Centre in London today where Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Minister for Disabled People Maria Miller MP hosted an event to engage the disabled people of the city.

In the year leading up to the London 2012 Paralympics and Olympics, we heard from TfL and the Mayor’s housing advisor on the challenges and the progress they have made over the past 12 months regarding access and disability. The Mayor and the Minister both gave speeches with mixed receptions, as delegates showed their disapproval of the Government’s policy on disability benefits.

Personally speaking I thought the most informative session of the day was a workshop run by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission and the Metropolitan Police on disability related harassment and the reporting of disability hate crime. Both Tanvi and I picked up some really interesting ideas for the Trailblazers harassment and hate crime investigation and upcoming report.
