Snow not enough to freeze PIP workshop

Over the weekend I braved the snow and made the trip down to the Royal County of Berkshire for the Thames Valley Muscle Group.

Luckily the snow wasn’t enough to dissuade our supporters with them turning out in mass to hear about the new benefit replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) – Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

Many individuals with muscle wasting conditions are concerned with the introduction of PIP and the affect it will have on them. The workshop was an opportunity to discuss these concerns and the ways that individuals can navigate around the potential hazards that the changes will throw up.

The group got a look at the brand new fact sheet covering PIP, which will be released later this week, as well as the new PIP forms that individuals will be required to fill out. Alongside PIP, supporters heard about the latest updates from head office including the forthcoming launch of the mentoring project Inspire.

It was excellent to see so many new faces at the workshop and the stalwarts who have made the group so successful over the years. I hope that the next meeting will be even bigger and better.

The topic of the next meeting will be research with a member of the research department at the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign coming to talk about the latest updates in the world of research.
